On Saturday 15th July my family and I stayed at Craiglands hotel. As we arrived there was no parking available. We parked on the road and walked up the hill. We were given our room keys and we had paid for three double rooms. I stayed in room 246. My son in room 247. These rooms were most definitely not double rooms. The beds were 3/4 beds and filled the width of the room. The rooms were single rooms at best. I was amazed at what they were chargingfor such a tiny room. The carpet was filthy and stained. When I inspected the bed sheets I had to wipe off a sticky substance on the bottom sheet. We didn’t get to our rooms until after 12 midnight, by which time we were tired and just put up with inadequate rooms. At breakfast the next day we were greeted my four members of staff at the door to ask our room numbers. While they stood there, there were dirty tables that needed cleaning, no orange juice, no croissants and no sign of the staff rectifying any of this.I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.Maria JacksonSent from my iPhone
My boyfriend and I have just returned following a two night stay at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley following a Red Letter Days gift package we got for Christmas. The pros:- The hotel is a renovated Victorian building situated in a residential spot close to the town’s railway station.Ilkley itself has great links to Leeds and Harrogate; is a beautiful town with a great balance of shopping, restaurants and country walks, and the locals are pleasant and polite.Upon our arrival at the hotel we were checked in swiftly by the helpful receptionist who was fully aware of what the gift package included. Our room, 137 was modernly presented and very clean, with plenty of storage space, a large window, wall mounted television with Freeview channels, complimentary wi-fi and the option of room service. We settled in quickly and after unpacking, went down to the restaurant “Brasserie 1” for dinner.I opted for the chicken liver parfait with toast and chutney which was extremely good. The main course was sirloin steak with garlic butter, chips, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms.Everything was cooked to complete perfection, and the portion size was very generous. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and the service was both efficient and friendly. Cons:-We were advised at check-in that due to old fashioned plumbing, we should leave the hot water run for a while before we had a bath or shower as it takes a while to heat up.On the first night I waited 10 minutes for the temperature to reach luke warm before getting in as I didn’t want to waste water, and after a further 10 minutes the water had not increased in temperature. Not an issue in the hot summer months, but would cause problems in the winter. The breakfast was delicious but meagre in portion size… We both ordered a full English and while the produce was obviously well chosen and tasted fantastic, we only got one sausage, one rasher of bacon and half a slice of black pudding each accompanied by a slimy mushroom, beans and a grilled mushroom.Following a lovely two days at the hotel, the last five minutes were marred by the attitude of a maintenance worker who I don’t know whether is employed by the hotel or contracted to come in.I had nipped to the loo in rather a hurry and managed to get locked in.I hadn’t noticed a sign on the door which said “maintenance” as the door was left wide open so people entering it couldn’t read it.As I was let out I heard the worker rudely say to one of the waiters “What does this sign say?”, so I turned round and made sure he knew I’d heard him.Completely rude and uncalled for. Not a nice way to end our lovely trip.
Craiglands is well-located for visiting Ilkley town and Ilkley Moor. Hotel rooms are compact but comfortable and reasonably well equipped with iron, ironing board, tv, tea and coffee making facilities. Ate in Hotel at times and food was fine if a little unexciting.Main negative point is the lack of staff, which meant that it took longer than seemed necessary to be dealt with. Having said that all the staff were pleasant and friendly, so perhaps they were expected to cover too many tasks and duties. Would stay again but would hope staffing situation is resolved.
Receptionist cheerful and professional. Although the coach bringing us, for our two night stay, was delayed the pre-ordered set three course dinner was excellent and special dietary requirements catered for. Room and en-suite clean, although advice requiredto resolve certain plumbing problems!Breakfast time saw a good range of cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, bread and a range of mini Danish and croissants. Full Trad English all hot and plentiful, tasty 'meaty' sausages deserve a mention - what more could you want.Sitting areas - bar and outside pleasant and clean. We did have to search out bar staff to serve our thirsty singers when arriving back later but this was soon sorted. Only other comments are TV's going (with sub titles) all day perhaps switch off by 11.00pm and outside 'Smokers area' further from bedrooms to avoid disturbing guests with very late night chatter!
After arriving in the hotel we were greeted at reception by a bright bubbly friendly receptionist who was very helpful. From there everything went downhill. The room itself was very basic but clean. We went down for dinner and the waitress was very efficient and friendly. We chose the fixed price three course dinner menu. The food was of a reasonable standard but was certainly not anything to shout about. Following dinner we retired to our room to find the electricity had gone off. A quick call to reception saw it sorted out quickly. The toilet flush in the bathroom was faulty and it was difficult to flush the toilet. I would disagree with the reviewers who had a problem with the water. We found the shower to be powerful and the water temperature constant. What really lets this hotel down is the breakfast. The breakfast staff seem to have no organisational skills and seem to have attitude problems. The breakfast buffet is frankly awful. Dry overcooked bacon black pudding resembling cardboard powdered scrambled eggs and whole field mushrooms that appear to have been microwaved. For what we paid for two nights B&B £245 I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you want to stay in this area find somewhere else unless this is the only hotel with vacancies
