Having booked a 3 night stay incorporating my 50th birthday it was a rather disappointing stay. The bedroom was not made up until after 3pm and the first day it was not done at all , asked the male housekeeper who was very helpful and about the happiest member of staff we came across he informed me all the departures have to be done first then the other rooms will be done. Breakfast was disgusting ( over cooked bacon and green scrambled eggs ) I did book an evening meal for my birthday but I cancelled the booking and ate elsewhere . Would not recommend...[Full review]
My daughter and I stayed in this hotel as we had a show to go to ,and its large comfortablerooms and pleasent staff made our stay the very best .free parking I'd definitely a bonus. We had an upgrade from 2x single beds to 2x king size beds. The bathroom had a tub with shower and separate shower. We had complimentary water , wine, kit kats in the fridge and the usual coffee tea facility's.Definitely going back
Having read many of the reviews of this hotel prior to staying, I have to admit to being more than slightly disappointed, and this must come down to room allocation. As a single man travelling alone, I paid for a single room which was on the fourth floor (room 402) which looked to the rear of the hotel. The bed would have been comfortable (i.e. good mattress and sheets) if it had actually been made properly (the mattress cover sheets were very wrinkled, seemed to me to have been very quickly thrown on). I virtually stripped the bedding to ensure a proper job the next night, but concluded that the room was too small to actually pull the mattress out to tuck the sheets in on the wall side properly. The ensuite was very small, with the square shower having sliding doors which really hampered ingress and egress. The room was clean, although the decor was dated to say the least. The breakfast room was dark (windows to the front of the building but not to the back) but the actual breakfast was good. Reception staff were helpful and efficient at getting me checked in.For parking, there are a few places both in front and behind the hotel, but these are on a first come, first served basis and are not reservable. Great if you can get one as I believe the nearby parking is £17 per day!I was not bothered by train noise from the station even though I had to have the window open (no air-con in room 402!).The hotel's USP is its central location, but I feel that for the price, I could have done better.
Excellent value for money. Lots of characteristic features in Hotel - one has to accept it is an old Hotel, therefore full of character. Amazing Staircase. Breakfast excellent value for money and served invery pleasant surroundings. Every member Of staff were friendly and efficient. We will return.
this is the third time we've stayed here we love it's old charm and the position it's in central for the town. This time many positiveParking around back Free . Staff excellentValue for moneyGreat room fixtures and fittings.En suite very nice Great food.Feels superior to the 3 star rating. Two negatives.... As it overlooks busy street very noisy overnight although secondary glazing fitted couldn't use it as room very warm had to leave window open not hotels fault I may add.Secondly fire alarm went off 140 am. Thankfully false alarm but there was no guidance at all from staff people were milling around no idea if it was real or what they ought to be doing.Apart from that a nice stay.
