A few years ago I went to South America after saving enough money to visit a friend. It was a bit of an impulse decision and I suddenly found myself with very little time to organise everything. I was staying with a friend in London when I suddenly realised that I should be arranging vaccinations immediately (as some of them take a long time to work) and she suggested to me the Royal Free Travel Health Centre, and what an excellent recommendation it was!I spoke to the head of the department, Maria, who was really helpful and calming, telling me that I needn't panic and she could arrange to see me the next day to have a chat and get what I needed. Maria, an expert in the field, put me at ease, telling me in detail about what I needed for where I was going and what I could get for free on the Nhs (if I went to my doctor). She said it was important not to spend more money than I needed and so rather than get everything done with her I should arrange a separate Doctors appointment for the others. I felt she was absolutely there for her patients, gaining no commission and giving genuine help.I got the Yellow Fever Vaccine (which was £50) and Malaria tablets (which were £3.75 a day). The vaccine didn't hurt a bit, I in fact couldn't believe it was over when done! I chose the pricier malaria tablets over ones that cost 60p each, after a discussion about the differences between the two. Although there was a large price gap I trusted Marias experience based guidance that people prone to allergies and side effects were less likely to suffer with these ones.I left feeling happy, safe and confident about travelling and a clear idea of the next steps I needed to take. I would really recommend this place to anyone needing travel advice.
