I stayed here for one night and it was great. I was in a party with a couple of other people and the lovely receptionist, Marie, made sure we were staying on the same floor near each other. The room was really clean and quiet and had a great night's sleep. The only negative was I didn't like the smell of the handwash or shower gel but I could have brought my own!
Spent three nights in this travelodge in March 2016.We wanted something basic, the room was good enough. It was quite large so we wondered why there was no space to put clothes except for six hangers. Also, it would be nice to be able to open the windows as the air was very dry. The shower very plastic-y but useable and missing a shower towel to stand on. Our shower stopped working on our second day but the staff were quick in giving us another room. We did have to walk to reception to actually contact a member of staff...Why I would not stay here again? It was the Easter weekend and we had MASSIVELY underestimated how many noisy and drunk people there would be in the city. When we did point out how noisy the hallways had been the reply we got was "Well, it's the Easter weekend." The staff did not even attempt to apologise for the inconvenience. That's really bad customer service...[Full review]
Currently staying in the Travellodge Piccadilly not happy apparently it's acceptable for staff to put a don't disturb sign back on your room and not clean the room or change the sheets during a 2 night stay - no cleaners still here to do it after spending the day in Manchester and coming back to unmade bed, dirty towels still in the shower as directed to receive new ones, still waiting for towels from reception half an hour later... No replacement tea or coffee given or offered. This is basic stuff Travellodge, very disappointed would not stay for longer than 1 night, if at all after this experience. When you pay for a hotel these basic things are what you pay for. Also only get half an hour free wifi then your expected to pay for more, should be free in 2016 like with other major hotels. Feel cheated would not reccomend to others.
Warning: don't book your accommodation while you're drunk... we only meant to visit Manchester for two nights but due to my inability to compute after two glasses of wine, we ended up visiting for three. First up, I'll focus on the positive. This hotel is in a great location, right on the Northern Quarter and pretty central. It's a new-ish building and check-in was straightforward. We actually to check-in twice due to my drunken booking antics above, and every staff member we encountered did their job well... if not a little robotic. Our room was on the 2nd floor at the back of the building. As the UK was in the midst of UK Heatwave 2015, this was actually a blessing as the room was pretty cool when we arrived. The windows didn't open which was massively annoying. The rooms are the definition of basic - bed, desk, one chair, TV, bottle opener attached to the desk. There wasn't even bedside tables. The bathroom is fine as well although it reminded me of an airplane loo. The downsides? The noise. Each night we could hear doors slamming through the night, and on the Friday night the people next to us were partying at all hours. I called reception who sorted it out but by that time I was pretty pissed off so didn't really get any sleep that night. When we complained in person at reception in the morning, she said she couldn't leave them a note asking them to be quiet the following night in case they got offended. I thought that was a pretty lame response. There is a bouncer on the door at night as well. This really made me wonder what kind of trouble normally goes on in this hotel! We had a nap on the Saturday afternoon in our room to make up for lack of sleep and again, it was really noisy with the cleaning staff shouting to each other. We ended up going to Boots to get earplugs to make sure we got a better sleep.Wifi is only free for 30 minutes, then you have to pay. In 2015. Are you kidding me?! The other downside? There's no car parking. On their website they recommend two car parks - one of which is £18 a day! Ha! We ended up parking off Ducie Street which was about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. That car park was £8 a day. You really do get what you pay for. For three nights we paid £154 which is a really great price, but I just can't see myself staying at a Travelodge again.
So lets be clear.. This is a new (2014) Travelodge. The rooms are modern but identakit. I asked for a front facing room in advance and got one over looking central Manchester. Which for under £30 for a night was pretty impressive. You get what you pay for with City Hotels. If you want to pay £200 a night for a posh hotel then go do so. This hotel has security on the door Thursday-Saturday nights so that should prove as a warning. I slept really well and the shower was decent.
